Breakdown/Description:
Kensington Arts Theatre is seeking headshot and resume submissions for the upcoming production of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. Please note that this is not an open call, but a call for submission of materials. KAT is currently seeking actresses for the role of DOT.

Rehearsals begin November 19 and run through early February 2012 (exact dates TBD). Rehearsals will take place on weeknights and occasional Saturdays or Sundays. All rehearsals and performances are located in Kensington, MD.

The show will perform at the Kensington Town Center running February 10 - March 3, 2012 on Friday & Saturday nights at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 3pm.

Once your material is received, you will receive an invitation to audition if selected. You will need to prepare a contemporary musical theatre song. Upon confirmation of a time slot, sides will be sent.
ABOUT THE SHOW:

In nineteenth-century France, Georges struggles with his art and his personal life. As George is completely engrossed in his artwork and not with his pregnant girlfriend, Dot, she leaves him to find a more supportive man. Meanwhile, Georges continues on with life, repainting anything he finds unpleasant. In Act Two, the musical takes places in America in 1984. Now, Georges' great-grandson, George, is struggling to find inspiration in his artwork. He is helped when the spirit of Dot returns with some wise words.

Washington National Opera announces Children’s Chorus auditions for Tosca (sung in Italian). Singers interested in auditioning should be between the ages of 8 and 16 with treble voices. A background in music is preferred.

All those interested in auditioning, please call Washington National Opera’s Production Office at 202-295-2440 beginning Monday, May 3 to schedule an audition appointment. Calls will be taken weekdays between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. No auditions will be heard without an appointment.

Singers are asked to prepare “The Star Spangled Banner” in B flat, and one selection of their own choice (please provide music for the accompanist). An accompanist will be provided by the company.

WNO reserves the right to hear only specific portions of the selection offered. Singers may also be asked to briefly vocalize to better determine range. Singers should report to the Washington National Opera Studio at 6925 Willow Street, NW, Washington, DC 20012. Singers should arrive one-half (1/2) hour prior to their scheduled audition time in order to complete the application process.* Upon arrival, singers should go to the
3rd floor of the building and follow the posted directions.

Actors' Center Lottery Auditions Are Open

The Spring AC Lottery Audition returns!

On Monday, May 16th at the Round House Theater in Silver Spring, MD, Actors' Center members who win a slot through the AC lottery system will have an appointment slot to audition for a group of auditors from local professional theaters and production companies.

Members get their chance at obtaining a slot by registration through AC Online, which is open now and will close Saturday, April 30th at 11:59pm. To register, log in at actorscenter.org and click "Register Now" in the Spring Lottery Audition box on the right hand side of your Member homepage.

Key details and dates to keep in mind:
This audition is a lottery - when you register, you are registering for a chance at a slot or wait list slot in the audition. The AC will pick names at random electronically at the end of the registration period.

There are a total of 132 audition slots.

Audition slots will be two minutes. Actors who secure audition slots will have a maximum of two minutes to present 1) a monologue and a song, 2) two monologues, or 3) one monologue. You are not required to use the full two minutes. As always, be very sure to time your material to ensure that you do not go over the two-minute limit. For those singing, an accompanist will be provided, but feel free to sing a cappella. (Singing is not an audition requirement.)

Random selection will take place on or about Monday, May 2nd. AC will not know if you are going to get a slot, nor what your odds are, until registration is complete.

You must BRING 40 to 50 headshots/resumes with you on the day of the audition. The AC will not accept mailed headshots. A final number of headshots required will be given to you a couple of days before the audition once the AC knows how many auditors will be attending. These headshots/resumes are required to be 8 x 10.

Please note: if you are making copies in a copy center (like Kinkos), the copies they make are 8.5 x 11. You must have them cut down to 8 x 10 before attaching your (8 x 10) resumes in order to conform to this size. The auditors – potential employers – want them all to be 8 x 10, so the AC requires those who get a slot to honor this request. If you come to the check-in desk with P/Rs not 8 x 10, the AC will be unable to accept them, and you may lose your slot.

Auditors have expressed a desire to see fresh faces at AC lottery auditions, and the AC would like to try to give more members the opportunity to be seen at least once a year. Therefore, if you had an audition slot in November 2010 you will only be eligible to go on the wait list for this Spring Lottery Audition. First priority will be given to actors who were not actually seen in the prior round. However, given that there are always cancellations and the wait list is also randomly generated, performers who were seen in November may still end up at the top of the wait list for the Spring Lottery.

You must be a member of the Actor's Center to audition. To become a member, go to www.actorscenter.org/index.cfm The Actor's Center sponsors this auditions twice annually. As with Leagues and Theatre Conference Auditions, you are heard by directors from various DC/VA/MD theatre companies.

The Fall AC Lottery Audition returns on Monday, November 15th at the Round House Theater in Silver Spring, MD. Member registration through AC Online is open now and will close Friday, October 29th at 5pm. To register, log in at actorscenter.org and click "Fall Lottery Audition" in your Members menu.

Key details and dates to keep in mind:
You must BRING 40 to 50 headshots with you on the day of the audition. Mailed headshots to the AC are not accepted. A final number of required headshots will be given to you a couple of days before the audition.

Note from the A/C:
"Our auditors have expressed a desire to see fresh faces at auditions. We’d like to try to give more of our members the opportunity to be seen at least once a year. For example, if you had an audition slot in June 2010 and were actually seen you will only be eligible to go on the wait list in this Fall Lottery Audition. First priority will be given to actors who were not actually seen in the prior round. However, given that there are always cancellations and that even the wait list is randomly generated, someone who is seen in November may still end up at the top of the wait list for the Fall Lottery and they will still have a good chance at getting another slot."

This audition is a lottery - when you register, you are registering for a chance at a slot or wait list slot in the audition. Names are selected at random electronically at the end of the registration period.

Audition slots will be two minutes. Actors who secure audition slots will have two minutes to present 1) a monologue and a song, 2) two monologues, or 3) one monologue. You are not required to use the full two minutes. As always, be very sure to time your material to ensure that you do not go over the two-minute limit. For those singing, an accompanist will be provided, but feel free to sing a cappella. (Singing is not an audition requirement!)

There are a total of 132 audition slots.

Random selection will take place on or about Saturday, October 30th. We will not know if you are going to get a slot, nor what your odds are, until registration is complete.

1. APPLICATION – Please type or print legibly. This application should be filled out in full. Do not write: “see resume.” If applicable information is missing, the application will not be processed. Make a copy for yourself. Application link available at opera.ciweb.org/faq

2. RESUME AND 8” x 10” PHOTO – Resume MUST include YEAR AND LOCATION performances took place and YEAR degrees were conferred. Photo should have YEAR it was taken on reverse side. If any pertinent dates are missing, the application will not be processed.

3. PROOF OF AGE – A copy of your birth certificate, passport photo page, or driver’s license is required of all applicants. Applicants must be 21 years of age by December 31, 2010, and should have completed their senior year of undergraduate studies by June 2011. Singers over 35 are ineligible for either program.

4. CD should contain two contrasting solo arias (one in English) recorded within the past 12 months. It is not necessary to make a “studio” recording or enhance the recording in any way. All auditions will be by invitation only. Singers who wish to be considered for an audition should send via email a current resume, photo and an optional audio file (MP3) no larger then [10MB] of a selected operatic aria to:

On the surface, warm, charming. open underneath, highly emotional, childish and fragile. Clinging to fantasy mentally unstable; possibly manic depressive. An alcoholic. Physically petite and attractive. Must be a terrific singer with both a strong compelling belt, a comfortable mix and a lush soprano to a G.

BUDDY PLUMMER: (late 40s - 50s). CAST- UNDERSTUDIES ONLY. A traveling salesman who lives up to his first name; kind, brash, crass and friendly. Always ready with a joke, he's everybody's buddy. A serial cheater, always looking for what he can't get from his wife. Still deeply in love with Sally, tortured by her instability and the fact she continues to love another man. None of the affairs satisfy. A realist, charming, rough around the edge. Deeply appealing and still redeemable. A great song and dance man. A vaudevillian, who moves or dances very well. A sparkplug. Baritone.

PHYLLIS ROGERS STONE: (late 40s to 50s) Once a Weissman Follies girl from the wrong side of the tracks, now a high-society wife and hostess. Sophisticated, intelligent and superior. Her caustic wit and blasé, seen-it-all exterior hides a deep seeded rage and disappointment at the emptiness of her marriage and life. Beautiful, elegant, extremely well cared for. Thin and toned. Nothing left to chance. Alto with strong mix.

BEN STONE: (late 40s to 50s). CAST- UNDERSTUDIES ONLY. A wealthy and celebrated politician, foundation president, and author, he is at the height of his success and prowess. Smart, suave, cultured, elegant, and attractive, he is wanted by everyone but feels nothing, and secretly loathes himself. Classically handsome, tall, masculine and charismatic. Lyric baritone.

YOUNG SALLY: (20s) Emotional and naïve, unrealistically romantic, already in love with Ben and willing to devote her life to him. Thinks with her heart and not her head. Petite, pert and attractive. Solid fresh mix with a strong chest and head voice, fresh appealing young sound.

YOUNG BUDDY: (20s) Fun-loving, generous with his friends, easygoing. In love with Sally, and although he already knows she's been unfaithful, he still believes his love will triumph. A young, character song and dance man. Not classically handsome but hugely appealing. Baritone.

YOUNG PHYLLIS: (20s) Open and loving, from the wrong side of the tracks but determined to become cultured and sophisticated in order to be a good wife to Ben. Fun, smart, determined. Tall, great bones; doesn't have to be as classically elegant or gorgeous as her older self. Solid, fresh mix.

YOUNG BEN: (20s) Ambitious and driven, already obsessed with becoming wealthy and successful and convinced that this will be the path to happiness. Already cheating on Phyllis, already looking for next, best thing whatever it is. Tall, handsome, masculine and irresistible. Baritone.

CARLOTTA CAMPION: (50s/60s) A former Weissman Follies girl who went on to become a movie star, she has now aged into a B-level celebrity with her own television series. Glamorous, still larger than life, she is wise, sexy, caustic and funny. Has been around the block more than a few times, but has never lost her sense of humor. Sings I'm Still Here. Must move well. Classic Broadway belt with range and stamina.

SOLANGE LA FITTE: (late 60s to early 70s) A star of the Follies who turned herself and her Frenchness into a brand, she's a perfume maven. Everything about her is a little bit too much, including her style and her accent. Sings Ah, Paris. In good shape, must move well. A character. Strong character belt with solid low range.

HATTIE WALKER: (60s) Once and always a Broadway Baby. She lives life to its fullest. Married five times, a grandmother who has spent a lifetime in the theater and still knows how to land a number as well as a husband. Sings Broadway Baby. Strong, brassy belt voice with very solid low range.

HEIDI SCHILLER: (70s) German, once a great soprano for whom famous composers wrote, aging and lost in memory. Sings One More Kiss. Legit soprano to an F.

STELLA DEEMS: (50s - 60s) Brassy and brash, she was once part of a song and dance team with her husband, but is happily retired from the showbiz. Sings Who's That Woman. Strong belt voice with very solid low range.

MAX DEEMS: (50s - 60s) With wife Stella, once a song-and-dance team, but now happily retired in Florida. Must move well and have strong legit theater voice.

EMILY WHITMAN: (60s) With husband Theodore, once a part of a Follies song-and-dance team, now the owner of a dance school. Still pert and perky; a little dotty. Sings Rain on the Roof- Must be an excellent partner dancer. Alto.

THEODORE WHITMAN: (60s) With wife Emily, once a part of a Follies song-and-dance team, now the owner of a dance school. Sings Rain on the Roof - Must be an excellent partner dancer. Light, charming Baritone.

DIMITRI WEISMANN: (60s/70s) The impresario of the Follies, smart and charming, he has lost nothing of his grandeur, warmth, or elegance. NON-SINGING.

ROSCOE: (50s/60s) Sings Beautiful Girls. Legit tenor (in the Ziegfeld Style)to a high sustained A.

YOUNG HEIDI: (20s) A great opera soprano, still an ingénue. Sings One More Kiss. Elegant, beautiful, the embodiment of an age of grace and art. Lyric coloratura legit soprano to an A.

DEE DEE WEST: (40 - 50s) A former Follies girl. Must move well and have strong legit theater voice.

SANDRA CRANE: (40 to 50s) A former Follies girl. Must move well and have strong legit theater voice.

Synetic Theatre Auditions

Synetic Theater will be holding company auditions on June 27th and 28th at the Kennedy Center for the Performing arts. Auditions will be scheduled in groups in 30-minute intervals between 3PM and 8PM on both days.

This is an audition for the Synetic Theater acting company. Company membership is not paid, although members will receive free training and discounts on other training opportunities. Casting in Synetic Theater productions will take place from the Synetic Theater company - actors cast in shows are paid for their work. Currently in search of non-AEA company members.

At the audition, please come ready to move and have a 2-3 minute contemporary monologue prepared (either comedic or dramatic). Please bring 4 copies of your headshot and resume.

Actors who are asked to train with the company are required to attend training sessions between July 12th and 25th, 2010. Actors accepted into the company will be notified at the end of this training session. 2010-2011 company members are expected to attend additional training sessions throughout the season and will receive a package of additional benefits and training opportunities.

Herbert Dimmock are joined by soloists Jennifer Waters (soprano) and Sean Pflueger (bass) in performances of selections from Bach's Overture in C (BWV 1066), Cantata 59: Wer mich liebet, der wird mein Wort halten - "Whoever loves me, keeps my commandments", and what is possibly Bach's best known motet, Jesu meine Freude.

The Actors' Center is an important resource for actors and singers who live in the Washington DC area. You'll find audition listings for DC film, musical theatre and straight theatre, many of which are not listed in Backstage.

Below is the info on this summer's lottery auditions, but you must become a member to register.

The Summer AC Lottery Audition returns on Monday, June 7th at the Round House Theater in Silver Spring, MD. Member registration through AC Online is open now and will close Friday, May 21st at 5pm. To register, log in at actorscenter.org and click "Summer Lottery Audition" in your Members menu.

Key details and dates to keep in mind:
IMPORTANT CHANGE! #1! You must now BRING 40 to 50 headshots with you on the day of the audition. AC will not accept mailed headshots. A final headshot required number will be given to you a couple of days before the audition.

IMPORTANT CHANGE! #2! AC auditors have expressed a desire to see fresh faces at auditions and AC would like to try to give more members the opportunity to be seen at least once a year. For example, if you had an audition slot in November 2009 and were actually seen you will only be eligible to go on the wait list in this Summer Lottery Audition. For this and future lottery auditions, first priority will be given to actors who were not seen in the prior round. However, given that there are always cancellations and that even the wait list is randomly generated, someone who is seen in November may still end up at the top of the wait list for the Summer Lottery and they will still have a good chance at getting another slot.

This audition is a lottery - when you register, you are registering for a chance at a slot or wait list slot in the audition. AC will pick names at random electronically at the end of the registration period.

Audition slots will be two minutes, rather than the standard 90-second format members are used to at the League auditions. Actors who secure audition slots will have two minutes to present 1) a monologue and a song, 2) two monologues, or 3) one monologue. You are not required to use the full two minutes. As always, be very sure to time your material to ensure that you do not go over the two-minute limit. For those singing, an accompanist will be provided, but feel free to sing a cappella. (Singing is not an audition requirement!)

There are a total of 132 audition slots.
Random selection will take place on or about Saturday, May 22nd. AC will not know if you are going to get a slot, nor what your odds are, until registration is complete.

Winner to perform National Anthem with BSO

“O, Say Can You Sing” contest details:
Auditions will take place on Monday, May 10 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Auditions will be by appointment only and parental permission will be required of all contestants. Audition times will be distributed on a “first come, first served” basis, by appointment only and parental permission (signed waiver form) will be required fo all contestants under the age of 18.

Age Limit:
The competition is open to singers age 8 to 18.

Requirements:
Contestants must be able to sing the “Star-Spangled Banner” in the key of B-flat major or A-flat major along with an accompanist provided by the BSO. All entrants must be available for performances on both July 3 and 4, 2010. Reagan Warfield from the 106.5 FM Mix Morning Show with Jo-Jo and Reagan will serve as celebrity judge alongside the BSO staff members and local vocal experts.

Contestants will be judged on singing ability and stage presence. Registration must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 6.

Bel Cantanti Opera is announcing auditions for its 2010-2011 season. Singers are needed for a double bill: “Gianni Schicchi” and “Pagliacci” (performances are on November 13, 14, 20, 21); “Romeo et Juliette” (performances in March); and “L’Italiana in Algeri” (performances in May). All roles are open. Paid.

Auditions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and 23, 2010, in Washington DC, at the JPH Hall, Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Catholic University of America.

On May 29 and 30, 2010, auditions will be held in New York City, at the Studios of 353 West 48 St.

To schedule an audition singers need to send an application package via email to auditions@belcantanti.com. Package should include a current resume, headshot, mp3 recording and the application fee of $35.

Two arias (French and Italian) are requested for the audition. Singers auditioning for the lead roles in the opera are required to sing an aria from that role. Accepted singers will be informed about their audition slot via email. Deadline for the applications is May 20, 2010.

The American Century Theater announces AUDITIONS for the concert staged reading of BABES IN ARMS. Seeking talented teenagers ages 13-20, (or adults that can pass as a teen) who sight read well and are vocally trained.

This classical music series, now in its 35th season, began in 1974 when the Music Friends of the Fairfax County Public Library bought a Steinway Concert Grand and began to hold recitals in local library branches.

What are Leagues Auditions?
The League of Washington Theatres (LOWT) Annual Auditions are aimed at the professional, working actor in the Washington metropolitan area. They are open to all professional actors, union and non-union. Because the emphasis is on local actors, all out-of-town actors who audition are asked to indicate on their resume whether they have local housing available.

Note: Washington Baltimore AEA Liaison Committee will hold two days of auditions for members of Actors' Equity Association (February 1-2). For more information, contact EquityAuditions@aol.com

If eligible, you may audition at either the AEA auditions or the LOWT auditions but not both.

Your registration is complete when you receive a confirmed audition time.

Check in: You must check-in 1 hour before your scheduled appointment.

Washington National Opera Institute for Young Singers

Washington National Opera Institute at American University is a summer training program for highly motivated high school singers and accompanists. The Opera Institute curriculum focuses on Italian art songs and includes classes in drama, period movement, music theory, chorus, opera history, and Italian diction. Students participate in master classes, opera scenes, individual vocal coaching, and group and individual lessons. Opera professionals present workshops on relevant topics including audition preparation, college and résumé preparation, and vocal health. The students participate in several performances of opera scenes and Italian art songs.
